Brands and Eras We Work On
We work on all the major brands across all eras of snowmobile production. Here's a breakdown of what we commonly see and service:
Arctic Cat / Arctco — from the earliest vintage Arctco sleds of the late 1960s and 1970s through classic Cats of the 1980s and modern Arctic Cat machines. Arctic Cat has one of the most passionate vintage followings in snowmobiling, and these sleds respond well to proper restoration work.
Ski-Doo / Bombardier — Bombardier invented the modern snowmobile, and the vintage Ski-Doo lineup from the 1960s through the 1980s represents some of the most historically significant sleds ever built. We service everything from early Olympiques and TNTs through Blizzard-era machines and into modern Ski-Doo models.
Polaris — Polaris vintage iron from the 1970s and 1980s has a dedicated following in New Hampshire and throughout the Northeast. We work on vintage TX and Centurion-era machines through modern Polaris sleds.
Yamaha — Yamaha's vintage lineup including the SRX, Enticer, and Exciter series are well-represented in the Lakes Region. We service vintage and modern Yamaha snowmobiles across the full model range.
Not sure if we can help with your specific sled? Give us a call and describe what you have — we'll give you an honest answer about whether it's a project we can take on.
Restoration Levels — What Are You Looking For?
Not every restoration project has the same goal, and we approach each one based on what the owner actually wants to accomplish. Before any work begins, we have a conversation about scope, budget, and end use so you know exactly what you're getting.
Full restoration — mechanical and cosmetic — the most comprehensive approach. Engine rebuild, complete fuel system overhaul, ignition service, clutch rebuild, and full mechanical go-through combined with cosmetic work to bring the sled back to as-original condition as possible. This level of restoration is appropriate for a special machine — a family heirloom, a particularly significant model, or a sled you want to show as well as ride.
Mechanical restoration — focused entirely on reliability and performance rather than appearance. Engine work, fuel system, ignition, clutch, and everything needed to make the sled run correctly and dependably. The cosmetic condition is left as-is or addressed minimally. The right choice when the goal is a reliable rider rather than a showpiece.
Trail-ready build — the most practical approach for a vintage sled you intend to actually ride. We address whatever is needed to get the sled running safely and reliably for trail use — no more, no less. This often means carburetor work, fresh ignition components, a clutch inspection, and a mechanical assessment to identify anything that would leave you stranded on the trail.
We'll help you figure out which approach makes sense for your sled and your goals.
The Challenges of Vintage Snowmobile Work
Vintage snowmobile restoration requires a different approach than working on modern machines — and a different mindset. Understanding what makes these projects unique helps set realistic expectations from the start.
Parts availability is the most significant variable in any vintage snowmobile project. For popular models and brands, NOS (new old stock) parts, quality reproductions, and strong aftermarket support make restoration very achievable. For less common models or very early machines, some parts may require fabrication, adaptation from related models, or patient sourcing through vintage snowmobile communities and dealers. We're upfront about parts availability before committing to a project scope.
Two-stroke engine specifics — the vast majority of vintage snowmobiles use two-stroke engines, which have different maintenance and rebuild requirements than the four-stroke engines most mechanics work on daily. Two-stroke carburetion, reed valve condition, power valve operation (where applicable), and proper jetting are all critical to performance and engine longevity. A lean-running two-stroke can cause serious engine damage quickly — proper carburetor setup is essential, not optional.
Ethanol fuel issues — like all small engines, vintage snowmobiles suffer from the effects of ethanol-blended modern gasoline. Ethanol degrades fuel system components faster than older fuel formulations, attracts moisture, and leaves varnish deposits in carburetors when fuel sits. We recommend using ethanol-free fuel in vintage sleds whenever possible, and treating with fuel stabilizer any time the sled will sit for more than a few weeks.
Storage condition matters enormously — a sled that spent 20 years in a dry barn is a fundamentally different project than one that sat outside under a tarp. Moisture, UV exposure, and temperature cycling over years of outdoor storage affect every system on the sled. We assess storage condition carefully as part of the initial evaluation.
Seasonal Service — Vintage and Modern Snowmobiles
Even well-maintained snowmobiles benefit from annual service before the season starts. New Hampshire's riding season is short — missing early season trails because your sled isn't ready is a frustrating and avoidable problem.
A proper pre-season service covers spark plug inspection and replacement, carburetor inspection and cleaning, fuel system check, clutch inspection and belt condition, track tension and condition, slide wear, drive chain lubrication, and a general mechanical once-over to catch anything that developed during the off-season.
For vintage two-stroke sleds, carburetor condition after summer storage is the most common issue. Fuel left in the carburetor over the warm months degrades and leaves deposits that cause hard starting and lean running. A carb clean at the start of each season is inexpensive insurance against a sled that won't perform when the snow finally arrives.
The best time to bring your sled in is September or October — before the pre-season rush. Early service means faster turnaround and your machine ready well before the first snowfall. Waiting until December means competing with everyone else who had the same idea on the same weekend.
Frequently Asked Questions
What brands do you work on?
Arctic Cat, Ski-Doo, Polaris, Yamaha, and other major brands — vintage 1960s and 1970s sleds, 1980s machines, and modern snowmobiles. Call us with your year and model and we'll confirm what we can do.
Do you do full restorations or just mechanical work?
Both. We handle full restorations including cosmetic work, mechanical-only builds focused on reliability, and trail-ready builds focused on getting a sled running safely for riding season. We discuss scope and goals with you before any work begins.
Can you rebuild vintage two-stroke engines?
Yes. Top-end and complete engine rebuilds on vintage two-stroke snowmobile engines. Parts availability varies by make, model, and year — we'll assess what's needed and what's available before committing to a scope.
My sled hasn't run in years — is it worth restoring?
Often yes, but storage condition is the biggest variable. A sled stored dry in a barn is a very different project from one that sat outside for a decade. Give us a call and describe what you have — we'll give you an honest assessment of what it would take and whether the project makes sense for your goals.
Do you help source vintage parts?
Yes — parts sourcing is part of the restoration process. Availability varies significantly by make, model, and year. We'll give you an honest picture of what we can find before the project scope is finalized.
Do you service modern snowmobiles too?
Yes. We service an equal mix of vintage and modern sleds — maintenance, fuel system service, clutch work, diagnostics, and general repairs on current Arctic Cat, Ski-Doo, Polaris, and Yamaha models.
When should I bring my sled in for pre-season service?
September or October — before the pre-season rush hits. Early service means faster turnaround and your sled ready before the first snowfall. Waiting until December means longer wait times and potentially missing early season trails.
